Bill Gaytten continues to impress me and I remain quite disappointed
about the criticisms made about his previous couture collection
for Dior that was influenced by Memphis design. I believe it was
brave and beautifully executed collection and will become a piece of
Dior history. Moving on, does anyone feel like the spring couture
collections have a reoccurring trend appearing....croc and snakeskin-
best executed by Givency, Dior and Armani of course, but I can't help
but think back to the best execution of croc in couture, which would have
to be Jean Paul Gaultier Fall 2009 couture, a craftsmanship that can be
matched by no other- each scale is crocheted together! But Bill Gaytten
has demonstrated a seamless and refined way of articulating each scale
which is separating them and emphasizing their outlines by spacing them
apart which allows them to move three dimensionally in a way that a 2d
textile prohibits. Clever Boy!

 Bill Gaytten creates accessories remnant of memphis
furniture of the 80's influenced by post modern forms
and designers such as the inspiring Ettore sottsass these
pieces are both sculptural and architectural. There is a
restrained and elegant layering of 3-dimensional forms,
colours and material that become surreal and engaging-
as an architect myself I feel as though I need to invest in
such a piece that are so carefully considered and
composed they become art. It is rare and exciting for a
fashion designer to be influenced by architecture and
furniture design especially from such specific and inspiring
periods that shaped and formed the aesthetic we live by today.
An exciting succession from Galliano that will most definitely
deviate from Dior's traditional aesthetic.

Despite all the controversy surrounding the talented John
Galliano's departure or shall I say dismissal, Galliano still
manages to deliver another brilliant collection. The boots
are always an iconic piece to the Dior fall collection with
their endless heel and towering platform, this season
Galliano accents and details the boot with the material of
choice this season... snakeskin!
